  29.   Another post mentioned general hardware trouble, but I'd be suspicious of a
  30. more malignant problem with the symptoms you described.  I suspect that you've
  31. caught a virus on your computer.

  33.   And depending on what virus it is, you may not be able to scan for it with
  34. avirus checker running from the hard drive; the virus runs first and stops the
  35. checker from doing its job.

  37.   What you'll need is a good virus checker running on a floppy, write
  38. protected, to boot from.

  40.   It could be just a hardware problem, but that isn't too likely to make the
  41. harddrive's startup-sequence disappear unless you were changing it when it
  42. crashed.
